What is Respirator Fit Testing?

At Stellar Health Solutions, we offer professional Respirator Fit Testing services to help protect your workforce from exposure to hazardous airborne contaminants such as dust, fumes, gases, and infectious particles.

Respirator fit testing confirms that a respirator correctly fits the wearer’s unique facial structure, providing the protection required to prevent harmful substances from leaking into the breathing zone. A poor fit can result in dangerous exposure, even if the respirator itself meets safety standards.

Fit testing is mandatory for any employee required to wear tight-fitting respirators as part of their role and is a legal requirement under Australian Standard AS/NZS 1715:2009 for the selection, use, and maintenance of respiratory protective equipment.

When is Respirator Fit Testing Required?

  • Before an employee wears a respirator for the first time
  • Annually, to ensure the seal remains effective
  • If the wearer experiences significant facial changes (e.g., weight loss/gain, dental work, surgery)
  • When introducing a new type, size, or model of respirator

Why is Fit Testing Important?

  • Ensures compliance with Australian workplace safety regulations (AS/NZS 1715)
  • Protects workers from exposure to harmful airborne hazards
  • Identifies poorly fitting or incompatible respirators
  • Provides peace of mind for both employer and employee

How Our Fit Testing Works:

Pre-Test Consultation:

We’ll discuss your workplace’s respirator models and requirements prior to testing to ensure the correct equipment and adaptors are available. You’ll need to supply a sample respirator and filter for each individual being tested.

Onsite or In-Clinic Testing:

Our qualified team can perform testing at your site or at our clinic. Each test takes approximately 15 minutes. During the session, employees are informed of their results and fit status immediately.

Detailed Reporting:

Each participant receives a personal fit test report upon completion. A summary report for the entire group can also be provided if required.

Accreditation & Standards

Our Respirator Fit Testing is conducted in accordance with the AS/NZS 1715:2009 standard and is suitable for all respirator brands — including half-face, full-face, and disposable respirators.
